Corban Women's Soccer Wins Third Straight in 3-2 Triumph over Geoducks

OLYMPIA, Wash. - While overcoming the elements, a location change, and a time shift, the Corban University women's soccer team defeated The Evergreen State College Geoducks on Saturday evening in Washington, 3-2. The Warriors finish the 2015 regular season with a 7-10-1 overall record and 4-6-1 mark in Cascade Collegiate Conference (CCC) action, meaning they will play as the No. 7 seed in the upcoming CCC Tournament.

"I am pleased that we finished on a three-game winning streak," said head coach Marty Ziesemer. "The team played well under tough circumstances. It will be good to get some rest and get some people healthy as we get ready for postseason."

In the sixth minute of play, Warrior sophomore forward Sadee Kallis (Yakima, Wash.) buried a shot into the top-left corner of the goal, giving Corban the early advantage.

The Warriors took that lead into the halftime break, and then Corban freshman forward Lexi McQueary (Kennewick, Wash.) made it 2-0 in the 60th minute of play when she scored her fifth goal of the season after she beat her defender around the left wing, crossed into the middle and eventually found the ball back at her foot, burying her shot into the back of the net.

Kallis and McQueary are now tied for the team lead with five goals apiece.

The Geoducks pulled one back just a couple of minutes later, however, cutting the deficit in half.

Corban tacked on an insurance goal in the 82nd minute to help secure the victory, as junior defender Olivia Erskine (Chehalis, Wash.) headed home a McQueary corner kick to make it 3-1. Evergreen once again scored to make it interesting late, but the Warriors held on for the one-goal victory.

Corban finished the match with a 22-6 advantage in shots and racked up an 8-2 corner-kick edge in the win. The Warriors showed consistency, totaling 11 shots in each half.
