Corban Women's Basketball Completes Season Sweep with Win at Simpson

REDDING, Calif. - In a game that looked very different than the first time these two teams met, the Corban University women's basketball team won with dominant defense on Wednesday afternoon at Simpson University (Calif.), completing the season sweep over the Red Hawks via a 66-53 non-conference triumph.

"The ladies executed the game plan really well and made the shots when Simpson made their run," said Corban head coach Dave Bale. "Sadie, Julia, and Payton shot the ball really well, and Jade handled the pressures once again and kept us in the flow."

The 2015-16 season-opener saw these same two teams match up in Salem just a few weeks ago in a high-scoring affair, but Wednesday's contest was anything but, as both teams battled through a defensive contest. Corban played the better defense of the two squads in the first half, holding the Red Hawks to just 18 total points after two quarters while scoring 33 offensively.

In the third and fourth quarters, Simpson attempted to battle back, but for every mini-run the Red Hawks made, the Warriors had an answer, maintaining a 10-20 point lead throughout the contest. Corban scored 33 more points in that second half en route to defeating Simpson on its home floor by 13 points.

On the night as a team, Corban was perfect from the charity stripe, making 13-of-13 shots, while also shooting 41.1% overall from the field. The Warriors also won the rebounding battle, holding the slight edge, 42-37.

Warrior junior forward Sadie Pilgeram (Helena, Mont.) registered a career-best night with 25 points, shooting 9-of-15 from the field and nailing a trio of three-pointers in the process. In addition, Pilgeram nabbed a team-best 14 boards, tying her season-best mark in the category. Also shooting well was senior guard Julia Young (Snohomish, Wash.), as she totaled 19 points on the night, while junior forward Payton Wilcox (Salem, Ore.) chipped in nine points for Corban with a team-best five assists.

Defensively, Corban forced Simpson into 15 turnovers and a field-goal percentage of 32.3%.

Corban (4-4) takes a break from action until beginning Cascade Collegiate Conference (CCC) play on December 5 at Southern Oregon University. Tipoff is set for 5:30 p.m.
