Kallis Scores 90th Minute Game-Winner, Lifting Corban WSOC over Willamette, 1-0

SALEM, Ore. – Sophomore forward Sadee Kallis (Yakima, Wash.) scored in the 90th minute on Tuesday evening on the road, lifting the Corban University women's soccer team to a dramatic 1-0 triumph over cross-town foe, Willamette University. For the Warriors, it is their fourth-straight victory over Willamette in the series history.

"This was a fun game to watch and coach," said head coach Marty Ziesemer. "Both teams played well and worked hard. I am very proud of how the whole team competed all game. We kept getting some good opportunities all game and fortunately we were able to put away a goal. Nice to get a shutout for the team. It was well deserved."

In the first half, the Bearcats registered a number of good opportunities, but it was Warrior sophomore goalkeeper Sheyenne Brusven (Silverton, Ore.) who came up with the big stops, making six saves in the first 45 minutes. The Warriors were outshot in the first half 9-3, but in the second half, Corban turned things around.

Both sides registered a number of close chances, but neither side could find the breakthrough they were looking for with both goalies standing tall and making the saves needed to keep their teams in the game.

The 90th minute rolled around, however, and Corban senior forward Katelyn Fekkes (Stanwood, Wash.) began a dynamic run up the field at the Bearcat defense, and after committing one defender to her, she skillfully dished the ball to her right and into the path of the onrushing Kallis. Kallis took the opportunity like a true veteran, lacing her shot into the back of the net, sending the Warrior faithful that were in attendance into a raucous cheer. For Kallis, it is her team-leading third goal of the 2015 campaign.

With only 40 ticks left on the clock after she scored, Kallis and the Warriors left Willamette victorious via the only goal of the game in that final minute.

In total, Willamette outshot Corban, 14-9, but it only took one shot for the Warriors to leave their mark, and Kallis made it count.

Brusven finished the night with eight saves, tying her career high in the process.

Corban (2-1) returns to the pitch on Friday when it travels south to take on Menlo College (Calif.) at 3 p.m.
