EUGENE, Ore. – The Corban men's basketball couldn't quite get in a rhythm on Tuesday night, falling to the 8th-ranked Northwest Christian University Beacons by a 68-55 tally.
The Beacons came out hot, opening the scoring on an 8-0 run and the Warriors simply couldn't keep up. Corban was able to pull within three points multiple times throughout the first half, but ultimately was unable to overtake NCU.
Corban held the Beacons to only 39.3% shooting on the night, but second-chance points were the difference in the game, as NCU scored16 second-chance points and outrebounded the Warriors 48-36.
"We gave a great effort tonight against the #8 team in the country," said head coach Steve Masten. "We held NCU to 41%. Unfortunately, we didn't shoot the ball well. I thought Joel Johnson had a great game and is starting to have a real impact on the game."
Senior Cyrus Ward (Gig Harbor, Wash.) and freshman Joel Johnson (Tigard, Ore.) led the Warriors offensively, both notching 13 points each. AJ Monterossi (Beaverton, Ore.) and Caleb Herzberg (Beaverton, Ore.) also chipped in eight points apiece.
Corban (11-8, 5-8 CCC) has now lost four straight Cascade Collegiate Conference (CCC) games.
NCU (19-4, 12-1 CCC) has now won 12 straight games and 14 of its last 15.
The Warriors return to action this weekend, as they travel north to Walla Walla, Wash. to take on Walla Walla University on Friday, January 29th. Tipoff is set for 2 p.m.
