Corban Women’s Soccer Edges C of I on the Road, 2-1

CALDWELL, Idaho – Thanks to a goal in each half, the Corban University women's soccer team defeated the College of Idaho on the road on Friday afternoon, 2-1. The win was a big one as not only was it on the road, but it was over the squad that finished in second place during the 2015 regular season, keeping Corban in the upper half of the Cascade Collegiate Conference (CCC) standings.

"We played against a good team that needed to get their first conference win," said Corban head coach Likius Hafeni. "We had to adjust and make tactical changes in order to see out the game in the second half. It was a good win on the road!"

In the 15th minute of the contest, Warrior freshman midfielder Annouscka Kordom pounced on a loose ball just outside of the box and fired a beautiful half-volley into the right side netting, giving Corban the early lead.

The Warriors then extended that lead in the second stanza when senior forward Randi Donahue followed up her own saved penalty kick and then slotted home what turned out to be the match winner. At the time in the 55th minute, it gave Corban the 2-0 advantage.

C of I responded immediately, however, as Reilly Coyle stole the ball from the Warrior defense and played a pass to teammate Katelyn Benavidez, and Benavidez didn't miss in the 56th minute to halve the deficit and give the Yotes life.

From that point on, Corban played strong defensively, and only really allowed one other good shot when Jamiece Yizar hit a shot that clanged off of the right post and out. C of I registered two corner-kicks in the final four minutes, but the Warriors finished strong, holding on for the crucial road victory.

Corban held the edge in shots on the afternoon, 12-9, while both teams totaled four corner kicks. Donahue racked up a team-high five shots for the Warriors offensively, while in the goal, junior Sheyenne Brusven tallied two saves in the win.

Corban (8-5, 4-2 CCC) returns to the pitch on Sunday when it takes on Rocky Mountain College in Billings Montana. Kickoff is set for 11 a.m. PST. Live video will be provided.
