Salem, Ore. – Scoring came easy for the Warriors on Tuesday night, as Corban University men's basketball scored a season-high in points and dominated the Portland Bible College Wildcats from start to finish, winning by a score of 112-76.
"We moved the ball really well tonight and got great contributions from everyone," said Corban head coach Austin Johnson. "25 assists to seven turnovers is a good step for us, as is going 13 for 29 from beyond the arc. We got 58 points from the bench. It was great to see the bench make such a big contribution and get good game minutes. We'll get back to work tomorrow with the goal to compete and improve."
Leading the way offensively for Corban was sophomore Joel Johnson, who shot 9-for-11 from the field on his way to a 20-point scoring performance. While scoring a team-high in points, Johnson also collected a team-high eight rebounds.
The Warriors shot a remarkable 57.1% on the game from the field, as there were five other players joining Johnson to score in double figures for the Navy and Gold. Juniors AJ Monterossi and Chris Martin pitched in 14 points apiece, while freshman Mike Seng and junior Andrew Evans added 12 points each. Junior Jake Love rounded out Corban's hot shooting with 10 points on the evening.
For the Wildcats, Javon Lue and Trey Merriweather each scored 20 points in the defeat.
Corban (5-3) looks to continue its winning streak as it returns home this weekend to face Northwest Indian College on Friday and Saturday. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m. on Friday and 2 p.m. on Saturday.
