SPOKANE, Wash. – The Corban women's basketball team found itself on the end of a losing effort for the first time this season, losing 86-31 to the Gonzaga University Bulldogs on Friday evening. However, this contest will not count towards Corban's overall record due to being an exhibition game.
"We played an incredible team, in Gonzaga, tonight," said Corban head coach Michelle Skyles. "They were so long, athletic, and a level we won't see all year. Our team fought hard and did some things well in the first half. We were spent in the second half from fighting so hard in the first two quarters. Their defense had a lot to do with our lack of offense, but we also had a lot of turnovers that hindered us from getting an opportunity to gain any points. They dominated every aspect of the game. I am proud of our players for playing hard until the end."
Despite a difficult game for the Warriors, the Corban women looked promising as they move on having gained experience after playing the highly talented Gonzaga squad. Senior Maddy Pflaumer led all Corban scorers with eight points, while junior Maci Benedict led the team in rebounds and assists, collecting five rebounds and two assists.
The Warriors (3-0) look to return to their winning ways as they face Saint Martin's University on Monday, Nov. 7. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m. in Lacey, Wash.
