Warrior Women’s Basketball Stumbles on the road to No. 19 EOU

LA GRANDE, Ore. – The Corban University women's basketball team came up short against No. 19 Eastern Oregon University on Friday evening on the road, losing to the Mountaineers, 88-60.

"Eastern Oregon played like a ranked team tonight," said Corban head coach Michelle Skyles. "They were efficient on both ends of the floor and shot lights out. They were too much for us to handle tonight."

First quarters have not been kind to the Warriors in Cascade Collegiate Conference (CCC) action during the 2016-17 season, as once again, Corban found itself in a deep hole after quarter number one on Friday night, trailing the Mountaineers, 29-13.

Corban outscored EOU by two points in the second quarter to keep the game within touching distance, but then EOU extended the lead in the third stanza and tacked on 30 more points in the fourth quarter en route to the convincing win over the Navy and Gold.

For the Mountaineers, it was Payton Parrish and Maya Ah You leading the way with 19 points apiece, and Parrish hit five long-range efforts in the win. Additionally, Stormee Van Belle scored in double-digits with 10 points for the Mountaineers. As a team, Eastern Oregon shot 56.1% from the field and 42.3% from deep, hitting 11 shots from downtown in the triumph.

For Corban, Sadie Pilgeram totaled a team-best 14 points on an efficient 5-for-9 shooting effort, including a pair of long-range shots. Jordan Rasberry also had a solid performance, scoring 11 points on a 5-for-7 effort from the field. As a team, the Warriors committed 19 turnovers and shot just 43.4% overall while going 5-for-18 from beyond the arc.

Corban (6-5, 0-3 CCC) returns to CCC play tomorrow evening when it takes on the College of Idaho. Tipoff is set for 4:30 p.m. PST against the Yotes in Caldwell.
