Pflaumer Scores 36 in Corban Women’s Basketball 73-63 Loss at C of I

CALDWELL, Idaho – Maddey Pflaumer scored 36 points on Saturday evening, but it wasn't enough as the Corban University women's basketball team lost its fourth-consecutive Cascade Collegiate Conference (CCC) contest to start the 2016-17 campaign, with Saturday's defeat coming against the College of Idaho, 73-63.

"Our team played hard tonight but just couldn't guard their top players efficiently enough," said Corban head coach Michelle Skyles. "Everyone realized that Maddey was on and dominating and they wanted and worked to get her the ball. I'm proud of our team for playing hard. Just got to get over the hump here soon. They won't quit and I'm thankful for that. Our bench had to play a lot tonight, due to foul trouble, and they did well in their roles."

For Pflaumer, the 36 points are a season-best and is the highest amount any Warrior women's basketball player has scored all year long. On top of her 36 points on a 14-of-19 shooting effort, Pflaumer grabbed nine boards.

While Pflaumer was extremely efficient from the floor, the rest of the team struggled to get into an offensive rhythm, as the Warriors shot 40.4% overall from the field. From downtown, Corban shot just 25.0%, making only five attempts from deep.

The Yotes jumped out in front and took a four-point lead into the second quarter before then extending the advantage to eight points by the halftime break. Heading into the final quarter, the Yotes continued to play well, forcing Corban into a number of turnovers that resulted in easy buckets for C of I, and Corban needed to overcome an 11-point deficit in the final quarter.

Pflaumer continued to pound the ball inside in the fourth quarter, and she did not disappoint with bucket after bucket, but the remainder of the Warrior squad was unable to get anything going, and C of I made the necessary baskets en route to holding on for the 10-point triumph.

Corban committed 25 turnovers in the game, resulting in 26 points off of the turnovers for the Yotes.

C of I shot 41.1% on the night as a team with Petra Lumpert scoring a team-best 20 points while Madison Pilster tallied 18 points and Jaycin Tini recorded 16 points.

Corban (6-6, 0-4 CCC) returns to the court on Tuesday when it takes on Northwest Christian University on the road. Tipoff is set for 5:30 p.m.
