Warrior Women’s Basketball Stays Hot, Burns Lions With Balanced Attack

PORTLAND, Ore. – The Corban University Women's Basketball team continued its hot second-half of Cascade Collegiate Conference (CCC) play with a solid 78-61 defeat over Multnomah University on Saturday night.

The Warriors, who have now won 11 of their last 14 games, shot 49.2% from the field (including an impressive 55.56% in the second half) to take down the Lions. They used a balanced offensive attack, with four Warrior players notching double-digit points on the night.

Multnomah was on target early, sinking four three-point shots in nine attempts in the first half, compared to a 1-11 showing on Corban's side. Despite their slow start in the first half, however, the Warriors still went into the intermission leading 35-31. Corban fared much better in the second half of play, outscoring the Lions 43-30 and never surrendering the lead en route to the 17-point victory.

"We came out of the gate a bit slow but adjusted well in the second half," said head coach Dave Bale. "It was a good team effort as everyone saw a bit of action."

Stat of the day: The Warriors outscored the Lions in the paint, 42-24, which ended up being the difference in the game.

On a day where nine different Warriors scored a point, senior guard Jade Lowery (Oregon City, Ore.) paced Corban with 23 points on 10-18 shooting. Three other Warriors hit double-digit point totals, as Julia Young (Snohomish, Wash.), Payton Wilcox (Salem, Ore.), and Sadie Pilgeram (Helena, Mont.) all dropped 14 points on the day.

Miranda Schmillen paced the Lions offensively with 18 points and Lacey Kamper added 11.

Corban (16-11, 11-7 CCC) will return home next weekend for its final regular season games, as the Warriors host Oregon Tech on Friday, February 19. Tipoff is set for 5:30 p.m. in the C.E. Jeffers Sports Center.
