CALDWELL, Idaho – For just the third time in program history, the No. 24-ranked Corban University volleyball team defeated the No. 12-ranked College of Idaho Yotes on the road in Idaho, winning in four sets (25-21, 17-25, 25-20, 25-20) on Saturday night. For the Warriors, the win snaps a 12-match home-winning streak for the Yotes dating back to last year in their home gym.
"I'm really proud of the way the team bounced back after a tough match last night," said Corban head coach Kim McLain. "We dug a hole early down 11-3 in set one, but the girls showed the resiliency they have displayed all season, coming back to win, 25-21! It was truly a team effort to be able to win 3-1 on the road against a great program like College of Idaho."
After falling behind 11-3 in that opening set, the Warriors bounced back in a big way, finishing strong to take the set-one triumph. In set two, the Yotes bounced back with a second-set win to level the contest at 1-1. From that point on, however, Corban used superior attacking and great defense en route to a pair of 25-20 set triumphs in the final two stanzas, resulting the in the win.
For the match, Corban hit for a .263 percentage, including marks of .333 in set three and .469 in set four.
Leading the way for the Warriors offensively was freshman outside hitter Adriana Aguayo, as she registered a monster evening, hitting for a .520 percentage with a career-best and team-best 16 kills in the victory. Also playing well for the Warriors in just her second match in a Warrior uniform was junior middle blocker Marandah Boeder with eight kills and a .318 hitting percentage.
Sophomore setter Madison McLain dished out 43 assists, while defensively, junior libero Haley Wells notched a team-best 20 digs. In addition, McLain and freshman defensive specialist Lauren Condon recorded 10 digs apiece.
After the match, Aguayo talked about the big win over C of I in a post-match interview.
Corban (7-3, 3-1 CCC) returns to Cascade Collegiate Conference (CCC) action on Tuesday night at Northwest Christian University. First serve is set for 7 p.m.
