College Place, Wash. – Thanks to a season-best .309 attacking percentage, the No. 24-ranked Corban University volleyball team pounded Walla Walla University on Sunday afternoon in straight sets (25-14, 25-18, 25-12). The victory is Corban's fourth out of its first six Cascade Collegiate Conference (CCC) contests during the 2016 campaign.
"I was proud of how the girls came out, ready to play on the road," said Corban head coach Kim McLain. "Because our conference is so tough, it is always important to be prepared mentally, fighting until the last whistle blows."
The Warriors hit for a .312 mark in the first set, dipped a bit in the second stanza at .286, but then finished strong with a .333 attacking percentage in the final set.
Individually, junior Alaina Gentili led the way for the Navy and Gold with 17 kills while hitting for a remarkable .640 percentage. Fellow junior Amber Parker recorded 11 kills for the Warriors, while rookie Adriana Aguayo provided Corban with five kills.
Defensively, it was a great all-around effort, with junior Haley Wells notching a team-best 16 digs and freshman Lauren Condon chipping in with nine digs. Dishing out the assists on the afternoon was sophomore Madison McLain, as she totaled 38 assists in just the three sets, averaging 12.66 assists/set.
In addition, at the net, the Warriors were dominant with four solo blocks and six block assists. Gentili led the way with two solo blocks and three block assists.
Corban (8-4, 4-2 CCC) returns to action next weekend when it travels north to battle The Evergreen State College and Northwest University on Friday and Saturday. First serves both nights are set for 7 p.m.
