KIRKLAND, Wash. – Thanks to an all-around fantastic team effort on Saturday evening, the No. 24-ranked Corban University volleyball team swept No. 20-ranked Northwest University on the road in straight sets (25-19, 25-20, 25-22). The Warriors fired on all cylinders in the pivotal Cascade Collegiate Conference (CCC) triumph, and the victory moves Corban into a tie with Northwest for second place in the CCC standings.
"Northwest is a well-coached, strong, and competitive team," said Corban head coach Kim McLain. "We knew we had to stay mentally and physically focused throughout the match to have a chance for a win. I am proud of the girls and how they stayed with the game plan throughout the match."
On the night, Corban hit for a .243 attacking percentage offensively while standing strong defensively, holding the Eagles to just a .153 mark.
Corban was led offensively by junior outside hitter Amber Parker with 14 kills, while junior middle blockers Alaina Gentili totaled and Marandah Boeder recorded 11 and nine kills, respectively.
With those three leading the way and keeping Northwest guessing as to where the ball would go, Corban rode the early momentum and carried it through all three sets, winning in convincing fashion over the 20th-ranked Eagles.
Sophomore setter Madison McLain dished out 39 assists on the evening, helping the Warrior offense click all night long. Defensively, it was junior libero Haley Wells totaling 19 digs and freshman defensive specialist Lauren Condon notching 11 digs to keep Northwest at bay on the offensive end. Moreover, Parker and McLain added a combined 19 digs between the two in the victory.
Not only did Corban play well to start the match off, but Warriors finished strong, racking up 16 kills on a .429 hitting percentage, finishing the Eagles (9-4, 6-2 CCC) off in straight sets.
Corban (10-4, 6-2 CCC) will ride its three-match winning streak into next weekend when it heads to Multnomah University on Friday night and Warner Pacific on Saturday evening.
