PORTLAND, Ore. – For the fourth-consecutive match, the No. 24-ranked Corban University volleyball team registered a straight-set victory over a Cascade Collegiate Conference (CCC) opponent, with Friday night's triumph (25-21, 25-13, 25-21) coming on the road at Multnomah University. Prior to the four-match winning streak, the Warriors had not won a match in straight sets all year long.
"With Multnomah coming out strong in the first set, it was a struggle to get in rhythm," said Corban head coach Kim McLain. "But we pushed through and finished strong in the first set, and carried the momentum on to the next two sets to finish the match."
Riding a .340 attacking percentage throughout the triumph, the Warriors had to stave off a resilient Multnomah squad in the first set, finishing strong to claim the four-point set triumph.
After gaining that initial control of the match, the Warriors then forced Multnomah into a .000 hitting percentage in set two, resulting in the blowout result. In set three, the Warriors and Lions battled back and forth, but midway through, Corban took control and played like the No. 24 team in the NAIA, closing out the straight-set win for its 12th-consecutive set victory.
Junior middle blocker Alaina Gentili was on fire all evening long, keeping the Lions off balance with every attack as she hit for a .452 mark with 15 kills and just one error. Adding to her attack was junior outside hitter Amber Parker, as she led the way for Corban with 18 kills, hitting for a .368 percentage overall.
Sophomore Madison McLain continued to excel as the primary Warrior setter, handing out 39 assists on the evening. In addition, McLain totaled seven digs to go with two service aces.
Defensively, it was an all-around great team effort. Junior libero Haley Wells racked up a team-best 16 digs, while junior defensive specialist Kasey Calderon recorded 11 digs for the Navy and Gold. Additionally, freshman defensive specialist Lauren Condon tallied eight digs for the Warriors.
Corban (11-4, 7-2 CCC) returns to the hardwood tomorrow night when it closes out its month-long road trip at Warner Pacific College. First serve is set for 5 p.m. in Portland.
