"It was a great team win and everyone got to play, that dressed," said Corban head coach Michelle Skyles. "I was pleased with how we were able to share the ball, rebound well, and shoot the deep-ball better. Walla Walla has improved and with us having four games in a week has been wearing. Our young kids and more experienced players played well."
As a team, Corban had it going offensively and defensively early on, building a 23-11 lead after just one quarter. In the second stanza, the Warriors shot 62.5% from the field and scored 23 points again, but Walla Walla racked up 19 points of its own in the quarter to keep the contest within touching distance at the halftime break with Corban leading, 46-30.
In the third quarter, the Warriors came out of the gate running and built on their lead even further, tacking on 28 more points while holding the Wolves to just a 22.2% shooting mark in the stanza for just nine points. The fourth quarter saw everyone get involved in closing out the important CCC victory, giving the Warriors their seventh win in their last nine games.
Maci Benedict led the way offensively for the Warriors with 15 points, while Sadie Pilgeram totaled 11 points on a 4-for-5 shooting mark with a trio of three-pointers, six boards, and five assists. In addition, three other players hit double-figures in scoring, as Payton Wilcox scored 10 points with seven boards, while both Maddey Pflaumer and Bri Turner also finished with 10 points. Pflaumer and Turner combined to grab 14 rebounds between the two. After the game, Pflaumer talked about the win:
The Warriors dominated on the glass, owning a 53-29 advantage over the Wolves in the category, and as a team, Corban made 11 long-range efforts while also shooting 50.0% overall from the field. Defensively, Corban stifled Walla Walla, as the Wolves shot just 31.0% on the afternoon.
For the Wolves, Alyssa Blankenship tallied a team-best 16 points, while Kaitlyn Friesen recorded 11 points in the defeat.
Corban (13-9, 7-7 CCC) takes to the road next week when it heads north to play Northwest University on Friday and The Evergreen State College on Saturday evening. Tipoffs are set for 5:30 p.m. both nights.
