"Our team started out strong tonight, and I'm super proud of how our starters established the intensity and flow early on," said Corban head coach Michelle Skyles. "Our players coming off the bench were able to contribute well too. We are flowing together better and are playing within our roles quite well."
Everything was clicking early on, as Corban drained a trio of long-range efforts in the first quarter while also getting inside and converting its chances in the paint, and by the end of the first quarter, the Warriors led 25-13. By halftime, the lead was 47-32, and the Warriors shot 61.76% during those first 20 minutes while holding the Geoducks to a 44.0% mark.
In the third quarter, Corban extended its lead and took a commanding 27-point advantage into the fourth and final stanza. Evergreen showed grit in the final 10 minutes, battling back to outscore Corban 18-7 in the fourth, but the deficit was too large to overcome as the Warriors finished off the 16-point victory.
"We were able to talk through some adjustments to the scout and game plan and were then able to execute it," said Skyles. "It is fun to see us click and get better. I'm excited to see what we can do when we continue to play well."
Maci Benedict was very efficient from the field in Corban's first game back at home in nearly a month, shooting 7-for-10 from the field for 17 points while nailing three long-range shots. Sadie Pilgeram also played very well, scoring 15 points on a 6-for-10 effort, while down low, it was Maddey Pflaumer who put in yet another dominant performance, going 7-for-8 from the floor in just 19 minutes for 15 points to go with five blocks.
Corban shot 54.2% from the field as a team for the game, while Evergreen shot 40.4% overall.
For the Geoducks, it was Corina Tacardon who scored a team-best 15 points, while Imani Dunn totaled 13 points for Evergreen in the defeat.
The Warriors (8-7, 2-5 CCC) are set to return to conference play tomorrow when they host Northwest University. Tipoff is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
