SALEM, Ore. – There was a bit of poetic justice on Friday night, as a year after being eliminated from the Cascade Collegiate Conference (CCC) Tournament Quarterfinals in penalty kicks by Rocky Mountain College (Mont.) last year, the Corban University women's soccer team scored penalty kick with just over a minute remaining, lifting the Warriors to a 2-1 win over the Battlin' Bears. Corban scored two goals in the last five minutes of Friday's contest en route to the comeback victory.

"The game against Rocky was one of our best games of the season," said Corban head coach Likius Hafeni. "It was an even game in the first half, and we were unfortunate to concede a goal. We came out in the second half and created a lot of opportunities, scoring two great goals."

Lauryn Gamache scored a beauty of a goal at the 37-minute mark to put Rocky Mountain up, 1-0, firing a laser from 35 yards out into the top-left corner.

In the second half, the Warriors came out pressing, and over the course of the final 15 minutes, it looked as if Corban would tie the match on multiple occasions, Fantastic defensive plays kept the Warriors off the board however.

In the 86^th minute though, Corban found the goal it was looking for, as Holly Martinez Moorman got in behind the defense and poked a shot past the goalkeeper and into the net, tying the match at 1-1.

The Battlin' Bears (8-3-0, 4-2-0 CCC) went down the other way, however, and after ripping a volley from six yards out in the 88^th minute, Sheyenne Brusven came up with an incredible reaction save, keeping the score level at 1-1.

On the next attacking sequence for Corban, Annouscka Kordom got in behind the defense and was dragged down on her way to goal in the box, and the referee awarded a penalty kick. Kordom stepped up to the spot and made no mistake, burying a perfectly placed shot into the corner of the goal, putting the Warriors up 2-1 in dramatic fashion.

From that point on, the Warriors closed out the final minute for the victory, sealing the key CCC win.

Corban held the 16-8 shots advantage for the contest, and the 5-3 corner-kick edge.

"It was a great team effort and I am proud of my team for not giving up," said Hafeni. "We are looking forward to another tough game tomorrow and hopefully we get some points."

The Warriors (8-5-1, 5-2-1 CCC) return to the pitch tomorrow night for Senior Night against the College of Idaho. Kickoff at the CFC Soccer Complex is set for 7 p.m. following the conclusion of the pregame Senior Ceremony.
