REDDING, Calif. – The Corban University women's basketball team and Menlo College (Calif.) battled it out in a non-conference contest on Sunday afternoon in Redding, and the Warriors pushed the Oaks all the way until the end, but Corban ultimately fell by six points, 87-81. The loss was the first for Corban during the 2017 campaign.
"We played an extremely tough game today," said Corban head coach Michelle Skyles. "Our young Warriors battled an undefeated team until the final buzzer, and our girls showed resiliency as they fought back from 14 down to give us the opportunity to win."
Despite the defeat, the 81 points scored was Corban's highest offensive output of the 2017 campaign, with four different players scoring in double-digits. Emily Yost led the way with 19 points on a 7-for-14 shooting effort while also recording a team-best eight rebounds, while Maci Bozett tallied 16 points and nailed a pair of three-pointers.
Additionally, Jordan Woodvine scored 15 points for the Navy and Gold to go with six boards, while Hannah Shore totaled 11 points for the Warriors in the loss. Moreover, Treasure Farmer proved to be an effective distributor, racking up seven assists on the afternoon to go with eight points.
As a team, Corban shot just 37.5% overall and only 28.6% from beyond the arc. Menlo, on the other hand, shot 55.0% from the floor in the victory.
"We battled all night in spite of being outmatched physically against a very athletic and efficient team," said Skyles. "Win or lose, we got better today, and I'm very proud of our team."
Corban (2-1) returns to action on Saturday and Sunday when the Warriors will take on a pair of NCAA Division III schools. On Saturday at 1 p.m., Corban will play Linfield College, while on Sunday at 4 p.m. the Warriors will take on Lewis & Clark College. Both contests will be played at Lewis & Clark.
