PORTLAND, Ore. – The Corban University women's basketball team got off to a slow start on Saturday against Linfield College (Ore.), and the Warriors never recovered, resulting in a seven-point loss to the Wildcats, 84-77.
"Our team scored well today, but we didn't defend and rebound," said Corban head coach Michelle Skyles. "You can't win without being able to stop the opposing team or rebound. We weren't clicking today and Linfield was hungry for a win. We will be back ready to go tomorrow."
Corban was outscored in the first quarter, 20-12, and while the Warriors turned things around in the second stanza and scored 23 points, they still trailed at the halftime break by six. Heading into the fourth quarter, Corban still trailed by six, and down the stretch, Corban kept it close, but could never get over the top, resulting in the seven-point defeat.
Jordan Woodvine was dominant once again for Corban, scoring 27 points on a 12-for-16 shooting effort to go with five boards, two blocks, and two steals. Treasure Farmer and Maci Bozett were Corban's two others that hit double-digits, as Farmer tallied 14 points and Bozett recorded 10.
As a team, the Warriors shot 39.7% from the floor and only 29.4% from deep. Linfield finished the game shooting 44.8% overall and 33.3% from downtown.
Corban (2-2) returns to the hardwood tomorrow and will take on Lewis & Clark College. Tipoff in Portland is slated for 4 p.m.
