Warrior Women’s Hoops Edged by Lewis & Clark, 70-69

PORTLAND, Ore. – A rough first half ultimately doomed the Corban University women's basketball team, as the Warriors fell behind by 17 points at the break, and while the Navy and Gold did fight back in the second half, it wasn't enough in a 70-69 loss against Lewis & Clark College on Sunday.

"We came out really flat in the first half again," said Corban head coach Michelle Skyles. "We made some adjustments at the half and challenged the team, and they rose and came out fighting in the third quarter. We changed presses and forced turnovers that turned into points. As our players gained confidence, we continued to hit shots."

Corban scored just 12 points in the first stanza and 13 points in the second period. The third quarter was a complete turnaround, however, as the Warriors scored more points in the period than they did in the first half, pouring in 26 points in all to make it a one-point game heading to the fourth quarter.

In that final stanza, an Emily Yost layup put Corban in front by one point at the four-minute mark, but that was the last lead the Warriors would have. Corban did tie the game after trailing with less than a minute left, but a Pioneer three-pointer sealed the triumph for the home squad.

"We dug ourselves a hole, but still gave ourselves a chance to win the game," said Skyles. "Hannah played outstanding and Emily played her heart out as well. Maci and Treasure led us in leadership and fight during that second half."

In the loss, Hannah Shore led the way offensively with 19 points on a 7-for-11 shooting effort, including nailing five shots from distance. In addition, Maci Bozett scored 14 points for the Warriors and Jordan Woodvine added 11 points.

Corban (2-3) returns to the court next Sunday when the Warriors travel to Boise State University to take on the Division I foe in an exhibition contest. The game is slated for a 1 p.m. tipoff.
