Corban Volleyball Captures Program’s First-Ever CCC Regular-Season Championship

ASHLAND, Ore. – For the first time in program history, the Corban University volleyball team will be etching its name on the Cascade Collegiate Conference (CCC) regular-season championship trophy, as on Friday night, the Warriors used a dramatic come-from-behind five-set victory at Southern Oregon University to win the program's first-ever title. As the CCC regular-season champions, Corban has clinched the CCC's first automatic berth to nationals.

"I am proud of the girls after being two sets down," said Corban head coach Kim McLain, "coming together, playing with tenacity, and never giving up to pull off the five-set win!"

For Corban University Athletics, it marks the school's 18th regular season championship across all sports, and the first for Warrior Volleyball. After dropping the first two sets, 22-25 and 14-25, the Navy and Gold stormed back to claims sets three four and five in dramatic fashion (25-18, 25-13, 16-14), staking claim to the CCC Title in the process.

With the regular-season conference title, the Warriors will also officially be the host of the 2017 CCC Tournament, with the semifinals slated for Friday, November 10 at 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. The championship match will be played at 3 p.m. on Saturday, November 11 in the C.E. Jeffers Sports Center.

In that fifth and final set, the Warriors came from being down 12-8 and 13-10 en route to winning, 16-14. Adriana Aguayo came up with the championship kill for the Warriors, pounding the ball into the ground off of the perfect set from Cierra Leopoldino.

On the night, Corban hit for a .264 clip offensively while holding the Raiders to just a .217 mark.

Alaina Gentili led the way 19 kills on a .375 attacking mark, while Amber Parker added 16 kills, Bethany Filipenko tallied 12 on a stellar .800 hitting mark, and Aguayo recorded 10.

Keeping the offense moving all night long, Madison Milligan racked up a team-best 36 assists, while Cierra Leopoldino notched 31.

Defensively, it was Haley Wells that came up clutch, registering 22 digs in the victory.

Corban (21-7, 16-3 CCC) returns to the court tomorrow night at Oregon Tech to close out the CCC regular-season. First serve is slated for 5 p.m.
