Warrior Women’s Basketball Wins Fourth Straight, Edging Yotes, 66-61

CALDWELL, Idaho – While needing to come from behind on Friday night, the Corban University women's basketball team did what it needed to do in the second half, defeating College of Idaho on the road in an important Cascade Collegiate Conference (CCC) tilt, 66-61. For the Warriors, it marks their fourth-straight victory overall.

"I am super proud of how the girls played and found a way to win," said Corban head coach Michelle Skyles. "C of I is a hard place to play, and their team is very good. They played an extremely hard schedule to start the season, so I feel really good about getting another conference win."

After the first quarter saw both teams score 20 points, the Yotes took a five-point lead into the locker rooms at halftime. Corban stormed out in the second half, however, regaining the advantage by two points headed to the fourth stanza. In the final quarter in what was a back and forth period, the Warriors finished strong and held on for the key five-point win.

Corban was efficient overall on the night, shooting 49.1% from the field and 9-for-10 from the free-throw line. Defensively, Corban held the Yotes to just a 37.3% shooting mark overall, locking down defensively in the second half to limit C of I to just a 24.14% shooting mark.

Individually, Emily Yost was outstanding, going 10-for-11 from the floor for 22 points and eight boards. In addition, Jordan Woodvine tallied 14 points and nine rebounds, while Maci Bozett scored 10 points for the Navy and Gold. Moreover, in her first-career game with Corban, Shaelie Burgess totaled a team-best four blocks, leading the squad to 10 total blocks overall.

"We made some adjustments and made some plays down the stretch," said Skyles. "Emily scored really well inside, and Hannah Shore's defense was incredible. I know our kids are tired from finals and traveling, so that makes the win even more sweet."

Corban (6-4, 3-1 CCC) returns to the court on Saturday night when it takes on No. 8-ranked Eastern Oregon University. Tipoff in La Grande is set for 5:30 p.m.
