SPOKANE, Wash. – A day after struggling to find an offensive rhythm, the Corban University women's soccer team had no troubles offensively on Sunday, dominating Whitman College (Wash.) in a neutral site contest en route to a 2-0 triumph. The win brings the Warriors to 3-3 overall after their six non-conference contests.
"We played well, especially in the second half and created a lot of opportunities," said Corban head coach Likius Hafeni. "We needed another win to be ready mentally for our game against Evergreen. We are looking forward to our first conference games this coming weekend."
In the first 45 minutes, Corban displayed its dominant play with 11 shots while holding Whitman to zero shots in the first half. Corban scored the game's first goal in the 43rd minute when Nadine Correa lofted a shot over the keeper from the top of the box, giving the Warriors the momentum heading into the second stanza.
In the second half, Corban continued to press, and eventually the Warriors doubled their lead when Holly Martinez Moorman blasted the ball into the back of the net off an assist from Correa in the 77th minute.
Corban finished the match with 20 shots, while Whitman tallied just three for the entire game. Lexi McQueary led the way offensively for Corban with five shots, three of which were on frame. Of Corban's 20 shots, 11 went on goal.
Corban (3-3) begins Cascade Collegiate Conference (CCC) play next weekend when it travels north to take on The Evergreen State College on Friday. Kickoff is slated for 12 p.m. in Olympia.
