EUGENE, Ore. – While hitting at just a .176 clip on the evening, the No. 15-ranked Corban University volleyball team put itself in an early hole on the road and was unable to climb out of it, losing to Northwest Christian in four sets (25-19, 25-23, 16-25, 25-23). The loss is Corban's first in Cascade Collegiate Conference (CCC) action during the 2017 season.
"NCU came out ready to play and was defensively strong," said Corban head coach Kim McLain. "We had too many unforced errors."
Corban's attack percentage of .176 for the match is the lowest of any CCC match during the 2017 season, as the Warriors totaled 23 errors in the defeat. Set one was the least effective of the three, as Corban hit at just a .100 clip offensively in the six-point defeat.
While holding a lead in set number two, errors down the stretch doomed the Warriors, putting the team in the two-set hole. While Corban did respond with a dominant set-three victory, the Warriors were unable to sustain the momentum, losing in the fourth and final set by just two points.
Marandah Boeder and Alaina Gentili were Corban's two most effective attackers on the night with 27 kills between the two while also both hitting efficiently at the net.
Defensively, Haley Wells and Amber Parker notched 21 digs apiece, while Lauren Condon notched 16 digs.
Corban (9-5, 4-1 CCC) returns to the court at home on Sunday against Walla Walla. First serve in Salem is slated for 3 p.m.
