Kordom Scores to Lead Corban Women’s Soccer to 1-0 Win at No. 23 Northwest

KIRKLAND, Wash. – The Corban University women's soccer team scored just one goal on Saturday, but the one goal proved to be enough as the Warriors upset No. 23-ranked Northwest University on the road, 1-0. For the Warriors, the win comes over the team that advanced all of the way to the 2016 NAIA Semifinals.

"It was great to get a win against a solid team," said Corban head coach Likius Hafeni. "They put us under pressure in the first half, and we struggled to play the way we wanted to play. At the end, we just tried to manage the game and get away with a win."

Both teams traded chances during the first 45 minutes, but neither side found the breakthrough. In goal for Corban, Sheyenne Brusven proved to be the difference-maker, as she racked up eight saves on eight shots during the first half.

In the second half, Annouscka Kordom pounced on a ball that came off the crossbar from a corner kick, and Kordom ripped a left-footed shot into the back of the net, putting the Navy and Gold up, 1-0, in the 53rd minute.

Corban and Northwest would both create more chances as the match went along, and towards the end, the Eagles pushed in search of an equalizer, but the Warriors finished strong defensively, earning the key Cascade Collegiate Conference (CCC) triumph.

Brusven finished the game with 10 saves, as Northwest held the shots' advantage, 17-11.

After the match, Kordom talked about the big win. CLICK here to watch the video interview.

Corban (5-3, 2-0 CCC) returns to the field next week on the road in Montana when it will take on Carroll College and the University of Providence on Friday and Saturday.
