HELENA, Mont. – While playing in blizzard-like conditions on Friday, the Corban University women's soccer team showed grit and determination en route to coming from two goals down to earn a 2-2 double-overtime draw at (RV) Carroll College. The tie extended Corban's unbeaten streak to four matches.
"I am proud of the girls for getting a tie in a game that was very difficult to make a pass because of the snow," said Corban head coach Likius Hafeni. "We were down by two goals, but had two great goals by Lexi and Holly. We are looking forward to a great game tomorrow and hopefully we get a positive result."
The Warriors fell behind in the first stanza when they conceded a goal midway through, and the Fighting Saints then took a 2-0 lead early in the second half and looked to be in control. Carroll is the two-time defending Cascade Collegiate Conference (CCC) regular-season champion.
Corban then began to mount its comeback, first scoring in the 67th minute of play when Lexi McQueary found the back of the net to halve the deficit.
Corban continued to create chances after that, and finally in the 86th minute of action, Holly Martinez Moorman blasted a shot into the top-right corner from the top of the 18-yard box, tying the contest at 2-2, sending the match to overtime.
The two sides battled it out during the extra periods, but neither side found the game-winner, resulting in the 2-2 draw.
Both teams totaled 13 shots on the afternoon amidst the snowy conditions.
Corban (5-3-1, 2-0-1 CCC) returns to the pitch tomorrow at the University of Providence. Kickoff in Great Falls is slated for 12 p.m. PDT.
