No. 16 Warrior VB Caps off Corban Weekend with Straight-Set Win against SOU

SALEM, Ore. – Led by Alaina Gentili's dominant attacking performance, the No. 16-ranked Corban University volleyball team dominated Southern Oregon University on Saturday evening, capping off Corban Weekend with a straight-set triumph over the Raiders (25-15, 25-20, 25-21). The victory put the Warriors in first place in the Cascade Collegiate Conference (CCC) standings, at least for the moment.

"The team came out with great tenacity and played great defensively against a strong SOU attack," said Corban head coach Kim McLain. "I am very proud of the whole team and the way they are working hard to get better each week."

With the crowd at their back, the Warriors began the match on a 6-0 run, causing the Raiders to have to call a timeout immediately. Corban continued that momentum through the remainder of the first stanza, resulting in the 10-point set victory.

Corban remained in control in the second stanza, keeping the Raiders on the back foot en route to taking the two-set advantage. The Warriors then came from behind in the final set, finishing strong en route to sweeping SOU.

Alaina Gentili racked up 16 kills in the triumph, hitting at a .560 clip offensively with just two errors on 25 attempts. In addition, she came up big at the net, totaling a match-high seven block-assists. Also with a great all-around match, Amber Parker notched nine kills while also recording 12 digs to keep plays alive for the Navy and Gold.

Additionally, Adriana Aguayo tallied nine kills, while Cierra Leopoldino dished out a match-high 21 assists and Madison Milligan chipped in with 18 assists. Haley Wells and Lauren Condon were also key pieces defensively for the Warriors on the night, combining for 19 digs between the two.

As a team, Corban hit for a .230 mark, while SOU swung for just a .077 clip offensively.

For the Raiders, Haleigh Wagman led the way with eight kills, while Taylor Ristvedt tallied seven. Defensively, Ashlyn Flynn totaled a team-best 10 digs.

Corban (14-6, 9-2 CCC) returns to the court next weekend when it hosts Multnomah University and Warner Pacific College on Friday and Saturday evenings.
