Warrior Men’s Hoops Falls at the Buzzer to No. 8 C of I, 73-71

SALEM, Ore. – For the third-straight contest, the Corban men's basketball team had a shot at the buzzer to try to either tie or win the game, but for the third-straight game, the Warriors' shot fell short, resulting in No. 8 College of Idaho hanging on for the 73-71 triumph. The victory gives C of I the season sweep of the Warriors.

"Our guys put together another very competitive 40 minutes," said Corban head coach Austin Johnson. "We did a lot of good things on both sides of the ball, but were just one or two plays and made free-throws away from coming away with a win. I'm proud of how hard we battle and we'll continue to work to get better."

The Warriors (12-9, 6-7 CCC) shot 47.5% from the field and 43.8% from downtown on the night, but C of I was just as efficient, making 46.9% of its shots overall while hitting at a 47.1% clip from deep.

C of I made one of two free throws with 3.8 seconds remaining, and after the missed second free throw, Corban rushed down the floor and got a good look at a game-winning three-pointer, but the shot missed to the right, and the Yotes left town with a weekend sweep of the Willamette Valley foes.

Aziz Leeks led the way with 18 points on a 9-for-16 shooting effort to go with nine boards for C of I (16-5, 10-1 CCC), while four other players finished in double-figures to highlight a well-balanced offensive attack from the Yotes all evening long. Down low, the Yotes held the slight edge on the glass, 40-32, proving to be one of the keys on the night.

Corban's Joel Johnson led the way with 20 points and nine boards on an 8-for-13 shooting mark, while Chris Martin tallied 13 points with four three-pointers made.

The Warriors return to action next weekend on the road at Evergreen on Friday night and Northwest on Saturday. Tipoff is slated for 7:30 p.m. both nights.
