Corban Women’s Basketball Rolls to 57-42 Triumph at Multnomah

PORTLAND, Ore. – With an all-around solid team effort, the Corban University women's basketball team rolled past Multnomah University on Saturday night in Cascade Collegiate Conference (CCC) action, winning 57-42.

"Our team defense was really good as was our rebounding," said Corban head coach Michelle Skyles. "We had more defensive boards than they had total boards. We had a lot of kids contribute tonight."

One of the keys to Saturday's win was a 52-34 rebounding advantage for the Navy and Gold, leading to 14 second-chance points for the Warriors. In addition, Corban dominated in the paint, as the Warriors racked up 32 points in the paint on Saturday night to just 14 for the Lions.

After taking the 16-12 lead following 10 minutes of action, Corban made it a 27-20 lead at the break. In the third quarter, the Lions kept things somewhat close, but the Warrior offense caught fire in the fourth stanza and scored 19 points, sealing the comfortable 15-point victory.

Maci Bozett led the way with 13 points on the night, while it was Emily Yost down low who continued to be a force on the blocks, racking up 15 boards to go with 12 points. Rookie Shaelie Burgess showed why she is also a force to be reckoned with inside as well, tallying three more blocks for Corban in addition to scoring eight points and totaling six rebounds.

"We had a lot of kids contribute tonight," said Skyles. "Emily had another double-double and we had strong play from Maci, especially her scoring in the first half, and Treasure passed well again tonight. Abby was also a huge lift for us off the bench two nights in a row."

As a team, Corban shot 43.8% from the floor and 36.4% from downtown. Defensively, the Warriors held the Lions to just a 23.5% shooting mark overall and only a 10.5% mark from beyond the arc.

Corban (9-7, 5-4 CCC) returns to the court on Friday, January 12, when the Warriors host Oregon Tech at 5:30 p.m.
