After Gritty Comeback, Corban Women’s Soccer Falls to C of I in Double Overtime

CALDWELL, Idaho – Despite overcoming a 2-0 deficit with a pair of second-half goals, the Corban University women's soccer team fell on the road in double overtime to the College of Idaho Yotes on Sunday morning, 3-2.

"I am proud of the way we came out in the second half, despite being two goals down," said head coach Likius Hafeni. "We started very slow in the first half, but we came out in the second half with a lot of energy and we scored two great goals. We conceded a last-minute goal, and it was very unfortunate that we lost the game."

College of Idaho came out of the gates strong, jumping ahead on a pair of early goals from Madison Glascock (14th minute) and Emily Aspden (16th minute), scored just minutes apart from each other.

Undeterred, Corban responded in kind in the second half, rattling off a pair of rapid-succession goals to equalize. Rylee MacDonald was the first Warrior to find the back of the net, one-timing a cross from Lexi McQueary to put the Navy and Gold on the board. After assisting the squad's first goal, McQueary provided the equalizer after corralling a loose ball and beating the Yote goalkeeper.

Both teams went scoreless through the remainder of regulation and the first overtime period, leading to the two Cascade Collegiate Conference (CCC) opponents competed in a hotly-contested double overtime. Taking advantage of a Corban foul in the Yotes' attacking third, College of Idaho's Jocelyn Cook-Cox put home a free-kick from about 25 yards-out to deliver the win for College of Idaho in the 104th minute.

The last-minute loss is a hard one to swallow for the persistent Warrior squad, which will now focus on getting back on track as the CCC tournament rapidly approaches.

Corban (7-7-0, 4-5-0 CCC) will be back in action next weekend for its final road match of the 2018 regular season, traveling to La Grande, Ore. to take on the (RV) Eastern Oregon Mountaineers.
