SALEM, Ore. – Eve Ponce scored her first-career brace for the Corban University women's soccer team, lifting the Warriors to a 2-0 triumph on Saturday night over I-5 rival, Northwest Christian University. The win snapped a two-game skid for the Warriors in Cascade Collegiate Conference (CCC) action.
"I am very happy for Eve scoring two great goals," said Corban head coach Likius Hafeni. "It was not our best performance, but we managed to get a result. The first half was not easy, and we struggled to get into a rhythm, but we improved as a team in the second half and we are happy with the three points."
After a fairly even first 15 minutes, the Warriors got on the board when Lexi McQueary slipped a pass through to Ponce, and she buried her shot past the goalkeeper to make it a 1-0 lead. Watch video of the goal here:
She made it 2-0 in the 73rd minute of play when she connected on a header that flew into the net off of the perfect corner-kick cross from Rylee MacDonald.
The Warriors finished with the 15-14 shots advantage for the match, and a 3-1 corner-kick edge.
In goal, Elizabeth Brock tallied eight saves in the shutout.
For NCU, Katie Hastings played very well in goal, totaling six saves in the defeat.
Corban (7-5, 4-3 CCC) returns to action next weekend when it travels to Rocky Mountain College (Mont.) on Friday. Kickoff in Billings, Mont., is slated for 1 p.m. MT.
