PORTLAND, Ore. – It may have taken five sets on Saturday night, but the (RV) Corban University volleyball team won a thriller over Warner Pacific University (25-11, 25-23, 22-25, 20-25, 15-10). The win gives Corban the season sweep over the Knights.
"We started out strong in the first set," said Corban head coach Kim McLain. "We struggled with our passing as the match went on, but in the fifth, our passing turned around, allowing us to stay in system with our offense."
The Warriors took the first two sets with relative ease, but the Knights stormed back to take sets three and four, forcing the fifth. Corban went on and secured the triumph in the fifth by five points, earning the important road Cascade Collegiate Conference (CCC) victory.
Cassie Cunningham led the way with 15 kills and three blocks for Corban, while Avari Ridgway totaled 11 kills and Demi Winters eight. The Warriors recorded nine blocks on the night to go with 67 total digs. Kealani Ontai led the way with 17, while Lauren Condon contributed 14.
Cierra Leopoldino notched 24 assists and Jadyn Mullen tallied 19 on the night.
Corban (12-8, 8-3 CCC) returns to the court next weekend when it hosts The Evergreen State College on Friday and Northwest University on Saturday.
