Warrior Women’s Basketball Falls in Tight Contest at No. 7 Carroll, 57-48

HELENA, Mont. – A couple of days after a tough loss on the road, the Corban University women's basketball team followed it up with a strong performance against NAIA Division I powerhouse Carroll College (Mont.) on Sunday, falling narrowly to the Fighting Saints, 57-48. The game was also the first for Corban head coach Bill Pilgeram in his former city where he coached prior to coming to Corban this past summer.

"I thought we bounced back and battled well today! We gave ourselves a chance to win in the fourth quarter," said Pilgeram. "Jordan Woodvine and Emily Yost really carried us on the offensive end and our team defense was great, holding them in the fifties."

Woodvine scored 25 points in the defeat, going 9-for-22 from the field overall while nailing a pair of long-range shots. In addition, Yost totaled 16 points on an efficient 6-for-9 showing from the floor.

As a team, Corban shot 37.5% overall and just 20.0% from deep, but did shoot 90.0% from the charity stripe.

In what was a very tight game from start to finish, the Warriors trailed by just one point at the halftime break against the No. 7-ranked Saints. Carroll led by six after three quarters, and down the stretch, the Warriors were unable to complete a comeback, resulting in the tough nine-point defeat.

Corban (3-2) returns to the hardwood next Friday and Saturday when it competes in the Northwest University Classic. The Warriors will take on two more NAIA Division I programs, playing Rocky Mountain College (Mont.) on Friday at 6 p.m. and Lewis-Clark State College (Idaho) on Saturday at 6 p.m. in Kirkland, Wash.
