Corban Women’s Basketball Takes Down No. 24 Rocky Mountain, 65-52

KIRKLAND, Wash. – Exploding for 41 second-half points, the Corban University women's basketball team came from behind to defeat No. 24-ranked Rocky Mountain College (Mont.) on Friday in Kirkland, downing the Battlin' Bears 65-52. The win for the Warriors comes against a Rocky Mountain team that competed at the NAIA Division I National Championships last year.

"We really came out and played a great second half," said Corban head coach Bill Pilgeram. "We felt we left a lot of points on the floor in the first half, and we were able to finish those plays in the second half."

The first half saw the Warriors struggle to score, totaling just 24 points in the first 20 minutes. Corban trailed by five at the break.

In the second stanza, Corban caught absolute fire from the field as a team, scoring 26 points on a 73.3% shooting mark in the third quarter to nab the lead. Continuing on from there, the Warriors were once again efficient in the fourth stanza, and were very good from the line down the stretch, sealing the important victory over the Battlin' Bears.

For Rocky Mountain (3-1), it marked the squad's first loss of the year.

Emily Yost led the way offensively for Corban with 22 points, going 7-for-8 from the floor and 8-for-8 from the charity stripe. In addition to her 22 points, she hauled in a team-best 12 boards. Jordan Woodvine added a solid all-around performance as well, tallying 21 points and four boards on a 7-for-12 shooting mark.

"Emily Yost played very solid with 22 points/12 rebounds and Treasure Farmer had one of her best games running the show from the point," said Pilgeram. "Good team defense and 70% shooting in the second half was a lethal combination."

Corban (4-2) returns to the hardwood tomorrow night when it takes on Lewis-Clark State College. Tipoff is slated for 6 p.m.
