Corban Men’s Basketball Displays Depth in 97-73 Win over West Coast Baptist

PORTLAND, Ore. – Shooting 55.9% from the field and 50% from beyond the arc, the Corban University men's basketball team cruised to a 97-73 victory over West Coast Baptist College on Saturday afternoon. The Warriors leave the Multnomah Tournament with a pair of victories, moving to 5-0 on the season.

"We are continuing to understand the importance of how hard we have to play on both ends," said head coach Mitch Freeman, "and how important it is to take care of the basketball. We learned a lot this weekend."

The Warriors' depth has been one of the team's key factors to success in the early going of 2018, with Saturday afternoon's triumph further demonstrating the wide range of weapons available to Freeman. Five members of the Navy and Gold finished in double-digits in the victory.

Leading the way for Corban was Denis Kirichenko, who notched 19 points while going 6-of-11 from the field and 2-of-3 from three-point range. Joel Johnson (18 points, six rebounds) continued to exert his dominance in the paint; meanwhile, Dalton Patchen racked up a game-high 15 rebounds.

Off the bench, Tyler Wadleigh scored a season-high 11 points for the Navy and Gold, adding six boards and a team-high four assists. For the second-consecutive game, Gabe Porter finished with a double-digit scoring effort, tallying 11 points while going 3-of-5 from downtown. Last but certainly not least, Beau Tilleman ended the night with 10 points, going almost perfect (5-of-6) from the field.

After a back-and-forth affair for the majority of the first half, Corban closed out the final six minutes with a 24-5 run. Applying relentless pressure on the offensive end throughout the contest, the team's collective shooting percentage from the field (55.9%) and from three-point range (50%) ensured the Warriors would remain in control from thereon out.

Corban (5-0) returns to the hardwood on the road next weekend in Washington, as the Warriors will take on a pair of NAIA Division I programs in Carroll College (Mont.) and the University of Providence. Tip-off for both match-ups is set for 5 p.m.
