KIRKLAND, Wash. – The Corban University men's basketball team hung tough from start to finish on Friday night with NAIA Division I #22-ranked Carroll College (Mont.), but the Warriors ultimately could not overcome 24 turnovers in a 76-62 defeat. The loss is Corban's first of the 2018 campaign.
"This was the toughest and most physical team we have faced this year," said Corban head coach Mitch Freeman. "We couldn't overcome our first-half turnovers. We hope to grow from this loss."
Corban actually jumped in front early and led 14-4 after just six minutes, but the rest of the first half was challenging offensively, as the Warriors scored just 12 more points in the final 14 minutes of the first stanza.
In the second half, Corban starting shooting the ball much better and quickly pulled to within three points, but Carroll was able to maintain its lead and held a 6-7 point advantage for much of the second half.
Down the stretch, free-throw shooting led to the 14-point victory for the Fighting Saints.
Beau Roggenbach led the way for the Warriors with 21 points on an 8-for-11 shooting effort while also grabbing a team-best eight rebounds and nabbing four steals. Chandler Cavell finished with 14 points on a 6-for-9 shooting mark, while AJ Hodges totaled 12 points for Corban.
The Warriors (5-1) return to the court tomorrow to take on the University of Providence at 5 p.m.
