SPRINGFIELD, Ore. – After yet another strong regular season, the No. 16-ranked Corban University men's soccer team now turns its sights upon a bigger prize: the Cascade Collegiate Conference (CCC) Tournament title and a return trip to the NAIA National Tournament.
Tournament Central
The CCC Tournament, presented by U.S. Bank, is set to take place at the Willamalane Complex in Springfield, Ore. Corban serves as the No. 2 seed in the tournament, and is slated to tackle No. 7-seeded Carroll College at 5 p.m. on Wednesday night.
For the second-consecutive season, the Warriors finished just one point out of first place in the CCC regular-season standings, falling just shy of earning the conference regular-season title. Regardless, the upcoming tournament provides an exciting time for head coach Aaron Lewis to showcase one of Corban's deepest and most talented rosters of recent memory.
The Warriors boast a number of offensive weapons in their pursuit of a CCC tournament title, headlined by veteran Alex Segovia and rookie Kohl Hurtado. Segovia had yet another tremendous year for the Warriors, leading the team with 21 total points from eight goals and five assists. In his first collegiate season, Hurtado finished the regular season as the squad's leading goal scorer, netting nine on the year. Warrior fans should also keep an eye out for Levan Zhividze and Travez Whyte, who have demonstrated throughout the season their offensive capabilities, a testament to the Warriors' impressive depth.
Defensively, Jordan Salim has had a tremendous campaign in goal for the Warriors, leading the CCC in save percentage (.866), and ranking second in the conference in goals-against-average (0.61) and shutouts (8).
The Fighting Saints possess more than a little firepower in their own right, led offensively by their leading scorers Jose Porras and Terry Cox. Porras has proven to be one of the CCC's most dangerous attacking threats, having scored 11 goals this year, while adding five assists. Also more than capable of finding the back of the net, Cox ranks second on the Fighting Saints' roster with five goals on the season. Kaden Connor has been the team's primary goalkeeper during the course of the fall campaign, starting 13 of the squad's 15 games and accruing a season goals-against-average of 1.74.
The CCC's first automatic berth to nationals went to the CCC regular-season No. 1 seed, Southern Oregon; and the CCC's second automatic berth to nationals goes to the winner of the CCC Tournament. If the Raiders were to win the CCC tournament, then the tournament runner-up would receive the conference's second automatic berth to the NAIA National Tournament.
Live stats/live video will be available for all games of the CCC Soccer Tournament.
Prior to the beginning of competition, each team will attend the CCC Soccer Banquet, set to take place on Tuesday evening (November 6) in Eugene, Ore. The CCC Men's Soccer All-Conference teams are set to be announced at the event, with multiple Warrior players on path to contend for the honors.
