SALEM, Ore. – After capturing the program's second-ever Cascade Collegiate Conference (CCC) Tournament Title last year, the 2018 edition of Corban University volleyball is determined and ready to defend its title. This year will be a bit different, however, as the Warriors will first have to defeat Northwest University in a CCC Tournament Quarterfinal match in order to advance to the CCC Tournament Final Site.
TOURNAMENT CENTRAL
The Warriors finished the 2018 regular season with a 19-10 overall record and a 15-5 mark in CCC play. Thanks to that performance over the course of the year, Corban boasts the No. 4 overall seed in the CCC tournament. The Warriors will be taking on No. 5-seeded Northwest University, as the Eagles boast a 16-13 overall record with a 12-8 mark in conference action.
Both times the two teams met in 2018, the Warriors won in four sets.
Corban hosts Northwest on Tuesday night, November 6, at 7 p.m. in the C.E. Jeffers Sports Center. The winner of the CCC Quarterfinal contest will advance to the CCC Tournament Final Site, hosted this year in Ashland, Ore., at Southern Oregon University.
The Warriors play an all-around team-oriented style of volleyball, with everyone getting involved on both the attack and defense. Offensively, Adriana Aguayo leads the way with 3.00 kills/set, while Cassie Cunningham records 2.41 kills/set. Keeping the attack flowing on a night-by-night basis, Cierra Leopoldino and Jadyn Mullen both work effectively in Corban's two-setter offense, with Leopoldino averaging 5.60 assists/set, and Mullen totaling 5.21 assists/set.
Defensively, Kealani Ontai leads the way with 466 digs on the year to average 4.16 digs/set, while Lauren Condon ranks second for the Warriors in the category, notching 311 total and 2.78 digs/set. At the net, Demi Winters has proved to be a force, racking up 99 total blocks, while Jacquelyn Clark has complemented her well with 64 blocks to her name.
For Northwest, Keann White leads the way offensively with 2.31 kills/set, while Audrey Saelens tallied 1.81 kills/set for the Eagles. Courtney Carr serves as the team's primary setter with 7.26 assists/set, while defensively, it has been Christina Hegarty notching a team-best 493 total digs on the year. In addition, Tatiana Ensz has recorded 200 digs for the Eagles.
Live stats/live video will be available for Tuesday's CCC matchup between the two foes. The night is slated for a WHITE OUT theme, so Warrior fans are encouraged to wear WHITE while cheering on Corban.
