Slow First Half Plagues Corban Women’s Basketball in 67-61 Loss to Yotes

SALEM, Ore. – The Corban University women's basketball team was unable to contain College of Idaho's first-half onslaught on Saturday afternoon; and despite mounting a valiant comeback in quarters three and four, the deficit proved too much to overcome, resulting in a 67-61 victory for the Yotes.

"Once again, we showed what we are capable of in the second half," said head coach Bill Pilgeram. "We have to be better for the entire 40 minutes in a tough league game like this one."

College of Idaho was quick off the blocks, capturing a commanding early lead after outscoring the Navy and Gold 20-7 in the first quarter. Limited to just 18 first-half points, the Warriors entered the locker room trailing by 15. Turnovers were a key factor in the Warriors' slow start, with the College of Idaho defense forcing 13 Warrior giveaways in the first 20 minutes.

The third and fourth quarters featured the resilient second-half squad Warrior fans have become accustomed to seeing, with Corban more than doubling its first-half scoring output in the third quarter alone to climb back into contention. In the end it wasn't quite enough, as College of Idaho was able to endure the Warriors' late rally to earn a valuable Cascade Collegiate Conference (CCC) road win.

College of Idaho utilized a consistent and balanced attack in the victory, applying constant pressure to the Warrior defense. Three Yotes finished in double-digits, with Alyssa Case leading the way with 19 points and four boards, and Emily Hardwood (17 points, five rebounds, four assists) and Madison Holly (15 points, three rebounds) each proving to be equally dangerous weapons for College of Idaho head coach Janis Beal.

For the Warriors, it was Emily Yost and Jordan Woodvine—the team's reigning All-Conference duo—who led the charge in Corban's rally. Yost finished with 13 points, seven rebounds, and a pair of blocks in the defeat, while Woodvine led all players with her 31-point, eight-board effort.

"Jordan Woodvine really stepped up offensively in the second half," Pilgeram added, "She was unstoppable at times."

Corban (6-5, 1-1 CCC) will look to bounce back tomorrow in yet another significant CCC matchup, this time against No. 14-ranked Eastern Oregon University. Tip-off for the contest is set for 4 p.m.
