Corban Men’s Hoops Registers First CCC Win with 75-71 Triumph over Northwest

KIRKLAND, Wash. – Putting together a complete performance on Saturday, the Corban University men's basketball team earned its first Cascade Collegiate Conference (CCC) victory of the 2018-19 campaign, defeating Northwest University in a back-and-forth thriller, 75-71.

"It was great to see these guys play hard for 40 minutes vs. a tough Northwest team and win," said Corban head coach Mitch Freeman. "We were able to create extra possessions on the offensive glass and finished at the free-throw line. We will enjoy our bus ride down to Olympia and prepare for Evergreen State later tonight."

It came down to a few clutch three-pointers late on in regulation to go with good execution at the free-throw line to ultimately seal the contest and put away the Eagles. Mike Seng, Jaxon Hughes, and AJ Hodges all nailed three-pointers in the final five minutes for the Warriors, and Corban then sealed the deal at the charity stripe in the road win.

As a team, Corban hit eight long-range efforts in the win and shot 72.2% from the line. Overall, the Warriors shot 45.8% in the win while holding the Eagles to just a 41.94% shooting mark.

On the glass, Corban held the 40-31 rebounding edge, led by Beau Roggenbach who hauled in a game-high 13 boards to go with his 15 points. Roggenbach was efficient in his 15 points, shooting 6-for-12 from the floor.

Hodges proved key down the stretch, nailing the really big three-pointer to put the Warriors in front for good late, ultimately scoring a team-best 19 points. Hughes also performed well, totaling 12 points on a 4-for-8 field-goal percentage, sinking a trio of shots from downtown.

Corban (10-4, 1-3 CCC) returns to the hardwood tomorrow night when it takes on The Evergreen State College. Tipoff is slated for 7:30 p.m. in Olympia.
