Warrior Men’s Basketball Stumbles in One-Point Loss at Evergreen

OLYMPIA, Wash. – Corban had two potential go-ahead layups in the final five seconds on Sunday night, but neither went in, resulting in a tough 72-71 loss for the Warrior men's basketball team at The Evergreen State College.

"It was a 1-to-2 possession game the whole night," said Corban head coach Mitch Freeman. "Unfortunately, we didn't shoot it well down the stretch, nor did we convert at the line, but we gave ourselves a chance at the end."

Corban led at the half by seven points, but just a 31-point second stanza ultimately doomed the Warriors, as they shot just 43.33% from the floor in the final 20 minutes. In addition, the Warriors went 8-for-13 from the charity stripe, and had 10 costly turnovers, all resulting in the Geoducks (5-10, 1-6 CCC) first win in Cascade Collegiate Conference (CCC) play in 2018-19.

Joel Johnson went 10-for-16 from the field for 23 points for Corban, while AJ Hodges recorded 20 points on a 7-for-11 effort. In addition, Beau Roggenbach totaled a team-best 14 boards to go with his 12-point effort, and Dalton Patchen also chipped in 12 points in the one-point loss.

Corban (10-5, 1-4 CCC) returns to the court next Friday when it hosts Warner Pacific University. Tipoff is slated for 7:30 p.m. in the C.E. Jeffers Sports Center in Salem.
