Team Effort Lifts Warrior Women’s Hoops to 67-57 Triumph over Geoducks

OLYMPIA, Wash. – It may not have been Corban's most efficient offensive night of the 2018-19 campaign, but solid defense and a strong finish in the fourth quarter led to the Corban University women's basketball team downing The Evergreen State College on Sunday, 67-57. The win gives the Warriors the weekend sweep in Washington.

"It was a good, grind-it-out road win tonight," said Corban head coach Bill Pilgeram. "We struggled offensively to find a rhythm, but we were able to get enough stops when it counted."

On the night, the Warriors shot just 40.3% overall and committed 16 turnovers, but the Navy and Gold held Evergreen to just a 37.1% shooting mark, leading to the triumph. Two other big statistical differences that gave the advantage to the Warriors were bench points (16-5) and points in the paint (38-22), as Corban held the edge in both categories which proved critical.

Corban held the lead throughout the first half, but an Evergreen run early in the second stanza gave the Geoducks the advantage. The Warriors responded, however, and ultimately took a five-point lead into the fourth quarter, finishing strong to secure the road Cascade Collegiate Conference (CCC) victory.

Emily Yost led the way with 15 points on a 6-for-11 shooting mark to go with a team-best eight boards. Treasure Farmer went 6-for-12 from the floor for 14 points and tallied six rebounds while dishing out a team-best seven assists.

On top of those two players, Jordan Woodvine put in another solid all-around effort with 14 points, six boards, and five assists. Down low, Bri Turner provided another key effort, grabbing seven rebounds, including five of the offensive variety.

Corban (9-6, 3-2 CCC) returns to the hardwood on Friday when it hosts Warner Pacific University. Tipoff is Salem is slated for 5:30 p.m.
