Warrior Baseball Scores 23 Runs in Win and Splits Series with Red Hawks

REDDING, Calif. – While scoring 23 runs in game one on Sunday in a win, the Warriors stumbled in the final game of the four-game stint with the Simpson University Red Hawks, resulting in the series split. After winning the opener, 23-4, the Warriors could not keep that same offensive momentum going in game four, resulting in a 4-0 defeat.

Three different players hit home runs in the 23-4 rout in game one on Sunday, with two of them being grand slams. Drew Loera hit the first homer of the game for the Warriors to give Corban the advantage and stronghold on the game early on, and then both Andrew Axmaker and Maxwell Jeffrey blasted grand slams later in the contest as a part of a 12-run sixth inning.

It was domination from start to finish, as the Warriors racked up 22 hits, with Ethan Bragg leading the way with a 3-for-4 showing at the dish with four RBI and two runs scored. Axmaker finished with a team-best five RBI while scoring a team-best four runs in the leadoff spot.

Additionally at the plate, Cory Finlay, Jarett Thoren, and Jared Bell all tallied a trio of hits each for the Navy and Gold.

Earning the win in the seven-inning contest, Rilyn Lewchuk went six frames on the mound, allowing six hits and just three runs while striking out seven.

The final game of the series saw Corban's offense be halted dramatically, as the Warriors were unable to put any runs on the board in the 4-0 defeat. Ben Ross was the one bright spot for Corban at the plate, going 2-for-3 in the loss.

For the Warriors, it marked the squad's third-straight series split in three road series to begin the 2018 campaign.

"We are looking forward to playing our home-opener next weekend against Central Washington," said Corban head coach Derek Legg.

Corban (6-6) returns home next weekend for a four-game series with NCAA Division II opponent, Central Washington University on Saturday and Sunday. The home-opener at Salem-Keizer Volcanoes Stadium on Saturday is slated for a 12 p.m. first pitch.
