Corban Men’s Basketball Completes Regular-Season Sweep of Oregon Tech

KLAMATH FALLS, Ore. – For the first time in 13 years, the Corban University men's basketball team completed the regular-season sweep of Oregon Tech, as on Sunday evening, the Warriors edged the Owls on the road, 74-72. Sunday's game was a barn-burner, and ultimately it was the Warriors that came out on top, despite Oregon Tech getting a look at the buzzer to win it.

"Tonight was another Cascade Conference grinder," said Corban head men's basketball head coach Austin Johnson. "I am so happy for our players. We've been in countless games that came down to the wire, and I'm proud of them for earning this victory."

The last time Corban achieved the regular-season Cascade Collegiate Conference (CCC) sweep of the Owls was during the 2004-05 season, a year in which the Warriors made a run to the NAIA National Tournament.

The game looked to be in Corban's favor for much of the first half, but a late spurt to close the first stanza gave the Owls the advantage headed into the locker rooms, 41-36.

The second half saw Corban come out firing, and while building a lead of as many as 12 points, Oregon Tech fought back late to make things very interesting. After a few missed free throws by the Warriors during the last minute, the Owls got a running three-pointer off at the buzzer to try to win it in dramatic fashion, but the shot rimmed out, resulting in the big road win for Corban.

"We got contributions from everyone, which is what it takes," said Johnson. "AJ showed a lot of toughness this weekend playing injured and Dozier had a great bounce-back game. Important to note how Mike Seng was a big-time spark for us off the bench, as he helped us settle in a bit defensively in the second half."

AJ Monterossi finished with a team-leading 20 points for Corban on a 5-for-11 shooting effort, while Caleb Dozier also finished in double-digits with 11 points on a 5-for-10 shooting mark. In addition, Dozier grabbed a team-best 11 rebound and tallied a team-best four assists in the victory.

As a team, the Warriors shot 43.6% from the floor and 29.4% from deep. On the other end, Oregon Tech shot 42.2% from the field and 28.0% from beyond the arc.

For the Owls (19-9, 12-6 CCC), Mitchell Fink tallied a team-leading 23 points in the defeat.

Corban (15-12, 9-10 CCC) returns to the court for its final CCC regular-season contest on Wednesday evening when it travels an hour south to take on Northwest Christian University. Tipoff in Eugene is slated for a 7:30 p.m. start.
