KLAMATH FALLS, Ore. – Despite a valiant comeback effort in the second half, the Corban University women's basketball team was unable to complete the comeback, falling to the Oregon Tech Owls, 75-66. The win for the Owls give them the season sweep of the Warriors.
"We started strong and they started hitting a lot of shots in the second quarter," said Corban head coach Michelle Skyles. "We got way down in the third, but fought back and gave ourselves a chance to win. They hit some shots, and we didn't hit in response. I felt like our team played their hearts out and I'm proud of them for fighting against a lot of elements."
One of the keys on the night was points off turnovers, as the Warriors committed 19 turnovers, resulting in 23 points off of those turnovers. Oregon Tech on the other hand, tallied just 10 turnovers on the night, and the Warriors scored only 14 points off of those turnovers.
Trailing by nine points at the break, Corban cut the deficit to four points headed into the final quarter, but the Owls held on and made their free throws down the stretch, holding off the late Warrior rally.
In the defeat, Maci Bozett led the way for Corban with 23 points on an 8-for-11 shooting effort while nailing a quartet of three-pointers. Jordan Woodvine also had an efficient evening, going 7-for-13 from the floor for 15 points and six rebounds.
As a team, Corban shot 42.9% overall and 46.2% from deep while going 75.0% from the line. The Owls also shot 75.0% from the line, but made nine more attempts.
For the Owls (19-9, 12-6 CCC) in the triumph, Megan Morris tallied 18 points, as did Bailey Nelson. Nelson also grabbed 10 rebounds in the win for the Owls, while Nohea Waiwaiole totaled 14 points.
Corban (12-14, 8-11 CCC) returns to the hardwood for its last regular-season CCC contest when it takes on Northwest Christian University on Wednesday at 5:30 p.m. in Eugene.
