Warrior Baseball Drops Third One-Run Game of Series to LCSC, Falling 1-0

LEWISTON, Idaho – For the third time in four games, No. 5-ranked Lewis-Clark State College (Idaho) defeated the (RV) Corban University baseball team by just a single run, winning on Monday in the series finale, 1-0. The victory gives LCSC the series sweep of Corban.

"Obviously not the results we were hoping for this weekend," said Corban head coach Derek Legg. "We did a lot of things well, and learned the areas that we need to improve to beat teams like LC. It is one thing to be able to compete with them – it is an entirely different thing to beat them. We have some work to do, but I know my boys are willing to do it."

Corban becomes the only team thus far on the 2018 campaign to hold Lewis-Clark State to six runs or less in all games of a series. The three-time defending national champions LCSC scored six runs in each of the first three games, and then just one run in the series finale on Monday.

Unfortunately for Corban, the LCSC pitching staff did a very good job all series long limiting Corban's chances at the dish, holding Corban to just 11 total runs scored in the series – well below the squad's season average for a series. It marked the first series loss of the year for Corban, as the Warriors had won or split every series coming into this one with LCSC.

The difference on Monday was an RBI single from Lewis-Clark State's Tyler McDowell in the sixth frame, scoring Kasey Bailey. That run turned out to be the lone run of the ballgame, as Corban stranded eight runners on the day, including two more in the ninth inning.

At the plate, Maxwell Jeffrey went 2-for-4 for Corban and was the only player to record more than one hit, as the team totaled just six.

The Corban pitching staff threw very well, allowing just four LCSC hits on the afternoon. Caleb Henry tossed five innings of one-hit ball while striking out four, while Dallas Broge ultimately received the loss, giving up one hit and one run. Austin Holmes and Jonathan Russomano came out of the bullpen and pitched 2.1 innings of scoreless relief for the Navy and Gold.
