VANCOUVER, B.C. – The Corban University baseball team dropped a pair of NAIA-West Conference contests on Saturday north of the border to the University of British Columbia, falling in the opener, 8-2, before losing in the nightcap, 10-3.
In Saturday's opener, it was scoreless through three innings, but UBC took the lead in the fourth on an RBI groundout.
The Warriors tied things up in the sixth inning thanks to an RBI single to center field from Ethan Bragg, scoring Jared Bell.
UBC responded with four runs in the bottom half of that same frame, however, giving the Thunderbirds a sizeable advantage. An RBI single to left field from Jarett Thoren to score Daniel Freiburger in the seventh made it a three-run ballgame, but that was as close as Corban would get, as UBC tacked on three more runs en route to the six-run triumph.
In the defeat, the Warriors managed just four hits as a team. Kris Jackson tossed seven innings in the loss, dispersing six hits while allowing five runs – only four of which were earned. He also struck out six.
In the game-two defeat, Corban's offense never got going, and despite scoring three runs, the Warriors only actually manufactured three hits. Drew Loera had Corban's lone RBI in the contest, while Rilyn Lewchuk went 5.2 innings in the defeat on the mound, giving up eight hits and six runs.
In the loss, the Warriors did hold a lead for a moment in the fifth, but UBC immediately retook the lead in the bottom half of that same frame.
Corban (22-19, 11-11 NAIA West) returns to action tomorrow against the Thunderbirds, with first pitch of the doubleheader slated for 11 a.m.
