Warrior Baseball Nabs Doubleheader Sweep of College of Idaho

KEIZER, Ore. – The Corban University baseball team won a pair of crucial NAIA West conference contests on Saturday, defeating the College of Idaho 3-1 and 8-5 at Salem-Keizer Volcanoes Stadium.

"The boys played well today," said Corban head coach Derek Legg. "I'm happy with how they competed and look forward to coming out again tomorrow to compete again. We had some areas we need to improve, but the boys are willing to put in the effort to do that."

Kris Jackson was absolutely dominant on the mound in game one, tossing a complete game in which he allowed just four hits and one unearned run while striking out four.

At the plate for the Warriors, Ethan Bragg got the game started out the right way with an RBI single to center field, and after the Yotes tied it at 1-1 in the fifth, Josh Ebert provided an RBI single in the bottom half of the same frame to help Corban regain the lead.

Daniel Freiburger added an RBI single in the eighth, and that helped seal the deal in the crucial game-one win.

Game two saw the Warriors rack up 13 hits as a team and blow past the Yotes, leading for the entirety of the contest en route to the three-run triumph.

In the victory, Freiburger led the way with a 3-for-4 showing at the dish, while Bragg, Drew Loera, and Ben Ross all tallied two hits apiece, with both of Bragg's hits coming in as doubles. In addition, Andrew Axmaker led the way with two RBI for the Navy and Gold.

On the mound, Connor Mattison pitched six solid innings while allowing just two hits and one run. Jacob Bowser came on in the ninth for the Warriors and earned the save, throwing 0.2 innings while allowing no hits and no runs.

Corban (25-20, 14-12 NAIA West) returns to the field on Sunday for another doubleheader against C of I. First pitch is slated for 11 a.m.
