KEIZER, Ore. – For the second time during the 2018 campaign, the Corban University baseball team claimed a series win over the College of Idaho, as the Warriors defeated the Yotes three out of four games over the weekend series. On Sunday, Corban dropped the opener to C of I, 8-1, but the Warriors bounced back and dominated game two in eight innings, 11-1.
"I'm glad we were able to finish off the weekend on a high note," said Corban head coach Derek Legg. "We didn't play well in game one today, but that happens sometimes. It is more important to me that we bounced back and played our style of baseball. We look forward to competing next week."
In game one, the story was C of I's Miles Bigelow, as he went the distance in his last-ever start for the Yotes, as the senior allowed just five hits and one run while striking out three in the seven-run victory. At the plate, Carter Vieira went 5-for-5 in the win for C of I.
Game two saw the game head into the sixth inning tied at 1-1, but the Warriors exploded for six runs in the frame, with five being unearned runs. Corban took advantage of some costly C of I errors in the inning en route to blowing the game open.
The Warriors would put the nail in the coffin with two more runs in the seventh and two in the eighth, finishing the game via the 10-run rule in eight innings.
Caleb Henry pitched an absolute gem on the mound, throwing all eight innings for the Navy and Gold while dispersing three hits and allowing just the one run.
At the dish, Drew Loera went 3-for-5 with two RBI as the Warriors racked up 15 hits as a team. Josh Ebert went 2-for-5 for the Warriors, while Ben Ross, Daniel Freiburger, Andrew Axmaker, Maxwell Jeffrey and Brock Myklebust all recorded two hits apiece in the triumph.
Corban (26-21, 15-13 NAIA West) returns to action next weekend when it hosts Lewis-Clark State College (Idaho) on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. Senior Day ceremonies are slated for Sunday at Salem-Keizer Volcanoes Stadium.
