Freiburger’s Walk-Off Hit Lifts Corban Baseball to Upset of No. 7 Lewis-Clark State

KEIZER, Ore. – Daniel Freiburger hit a walk-off double in the 10th inning on Friday night of Senior Weekend, lifting the Corban University baseball team to a dramatic upset win over No. 7-ranked Lewis-Clark State College, 5-4. For the Warriors, it was their first win over LCSC this season.

"I'm proud of the way the boys competed today," said Corban head coach Derek Legg. "We battled hard on defense and made a couple of big plays that helped shift momentum. Offensively, we grinded today against some good arms. I'm looking forward to competing again tomorrow."

Corban trailed for the majority of the ballgame but scored three in the eighth to take a 4-3 lead heading into the ninth. Lewis-Clark State answered with the game-tying run in the top of the ninth, but Corban then provided the drama in the 10th frame with the walk-off hit.

After a leadoff walk to Jared Bell, Daniel Freiburger lifted a ball to right field, and when Lewis-Clark State's right fielder was unable to make the diving catch, Bell rounded third and headed home, sliding in safe to win it for the Warriors.

For Corban, the win marks the team's second straight win at home against LCSC, dating back to last year in the team's final contest of the year.

Ethan Bragg finished as the only Corban player with two hits as the team totaled just six. Lewis-Clark State tallied 12 hits as a team, but left 11 runners on base. Cory Voss led the way with a 4-for-5 performance, while Kyle Callahan went 3-for-4 in the defeat.

Corban's Kris Jackson went seven innings, allowing just two runs and only one earned. On the other side, Lalo Porras went 5.2 innings on the mound, striking out 11 Corban batters.

Jonathan Russomano earned the win in relief, getting out of a bases-loaded jam in the 10th inning.

Corban (27-21, 16-13 NAIA-West) returns to the diamond tomorrow when it hosts Lewis-Clark State (34-10, 23-6 NAIA-West) for a 9 a.m. doubleheader.
